Calgary Remembers 2016

Friday is Remembrance Day. Remembrance Day is a time for us to collectively reflect on the great sacrifices made by so many Canadians to ensure our freedom. On behalf of the Ward 12 office I want to extend my sincerest gratitude for the service of our veterans.

Free Transit For Veterans

Calgary Transit is offering free transit for all veterans and family on Remembrance Day. Veterans wearing ID cards are eligible.

Ceremonies

Burnsland Cemetery
27 Ave. and Spiller Rd. SE
Many heroes representing the Canadian Military and Royal Canadian Mounted Police have been laid to rest here. Join us for a free walking tour at 2 p.m. Explore the history and stories behind some of the non-Canadian units whose members are buried in the Burnsland Field of Honour.

The Hangar Flight Museum (formerly the Aerospace Museum)

Arrive before 10:15 a.m. to ensure you get a seat. Service begins at 10:30 a.m.

Battalion Park
3001 Signal Hill Dr. SW
Service begins at 10:30 a.m.
Hosted by the Kings Own Calgary Regiment.

Calgary International Airport (YYC)
2000 Airport Rd. NE (Main terminal, Departures Level)
Airport Pipe Band and Honour Guard will form up at 10:30 a.m. in the Concourse D – Departures Level.

Canadian Pacific Ogden Memorial
CP memorial Square, top parking lot by the 69 Ave. SE and Ogden Dale Rd. SE entrance
Service begins at 10:40 a.m.

Remembrance Day Parade at Central Memorial Park
1221 2 St. SW
Ceremony begins at 10:30 a.m. and includes a parade with the Calgary Highlanders .

Chinook Centre
6455 Macleod Tr. SW
Live buglers will perform prior to a moment of silence at 11 a.m. on Nov. 11.

Field of Crosses
Memorial Drive, between 3 Street and Centre Street
Remembrance Day ceremony at the flagpole, service begins at 10:30 a.m.

Fort Calgary
750 9 Ave. SE
Ceremony at 10:30 a.m. followed by an artisan’s fair from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Jubilee Auditorium
1415 14 Ave. NW
Tickets are free and issued at the door on a first-come, first-served basis. Veterans and seniors will be given priority.
Doors open at 9:30 a.m. Ceremony begins at 10:30 a.m.

Kerby Centre
1133 7 Ave. SW
Doors open at 10:30 a.m. and service begins at 10:50 a.m.

Military Museums
4520 Crowchild Tr. SW
Service begins at 10:30 a.m.Admission is free and those attending are asked to bring a non-perishable food donation for the Veterans’ Food Bank.

Poppy Plaza
Memorial Drive at 10 St. NW
This park commemorates those who have served to protect our freedom and security and is open from 5 a.m.–11 p.m. daily.
